Assigning a Thinapp to Vmware View

This tutorial will guide you through deploying a Thinapp application to Vmware View. If you haven’t already packaged an application using Thinapp please see my tutorial creating a vmware thinapp. If you have already packaged a thinapp application you must assign the MSI package to Vmware View, not the actual .exe file that is produced from Thinapp. In my creatng a vmware thinapp tutorial I run through the steps of creating both a thinapp and msi package.

1. The first step is to login to your Vmware View Administrator

2. Next we need to add a Thinapp repository, expand View Configuration and click on Thinapp Configuration. The Application repository is a basic Windows share that holds the Thinapp MSI package. In this tutorial I have created a share on my domain controller called thinapp.

3. Click on Add Repository and type in a Display Name, the share path to your thinapp applications and a description. Click Save.

4. The repository is now added.

5. Under Inventory click on Thinapps.

6. Click on Scan New ThinApps… Select the Thinapp repository that you created earlier from the drop down menu and click on the Folder to scan. Click Next.

7. Select the MSI, in this case I have previously package Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1, click Scan.

8. Once the scan has completed click Finish.

9. Lastly we need to assign the Thinapp to either a Pool or individual Desktops. In this tutorial I will be assigning Firefox to the whole desktop Pool.

10. Select the Desktop Pool and click Add and then Ok.

11. Now let’s test our deployment of the App. Here i’ve logged into my Windows 7 Virtual Desktop and as you can see there is a Mozille Firefox icon on the desktop along with an icon in the start menu.
